Our product’s journey unfolds against the backdrop of Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains. In this overwhelming landscape, the ancient craft of weaving woolen rugs and cushions thrives, a cherished tradition passed from mother to daughter. YKON interiors is proud to honor this conscious and dedicated approach by embracing these time-honored techniques.

Where artistry begins

Harnessing the natural beauty of the region, artisans source wool from their own sheep and utilize local plants and minerals to create a spectrum of vibrant colors. Raw wool transforms into rich, textured yarn, all spun by hand with care. This journey is one of patience and dedication, with each rug taking up to 12 weeks to come to life.

1 Wool sourcing

Sheep from the High Atlas have long fur due to the very cold winters up there. These long wool fibres are less likely to unravel or fluff.

2 Conscious cleaning

After the washing is done, the women remove the twigs and thistles that the sheep have collected in their furs over the past years.

3 Spinning

The wool is spinned into thread completely by hand using a spindle. Every cooperative has only a few elderly women who have this skill.

4 Slow dyeing

Yarns are prepared for dying using the natural products soda and alum. We use plants or pigments to get rich earthy and natural tones.

5 Knotting & weaving

It takes about 12 weeks to knot a rug and 3 weeks to weave a cushions. Every knotted square meter counts around 25.000 knots.

6 Delivery

We transport our rugs and cushion in reusable cotton bags, delivered right to your doorstep.
