Woolen rug and cushion care instructions

All our products are made of 100% sheep wool. Wool is a naturally dirt-repellent material and doesn’t get dirty quickly, but with good maintenance your rug will last longer. In this article you will find our advice for the care of your new rug or cushion.

Rugs

We recommend that you vacuum your rug at least once every 2 weeks. Thereby you do the vacuuming in the direction of the knots. If you have enough space, you can also wash the rug completely with water, organic wool detergent and a brush. Always brush in the direction of the knots and rinse the detergent well. Thereafter, leave the rug to dry fully in the warm air. Another option is professional cleaning. If you choose this option, always mention that it is a hand-knotted woolen rug.

Cushion

Knock out your pillows every so often. You can also wash them by hand with an organic wool detergent. Wool detergent contains a small amount of oil, which is good for the wool fibre. Let the cushions dry flat after washing. Be sure not to wring them out, or the wool will pill.

What to do with a stain?

What you can do best with a stain depends on the type of stain. Fresh stains are best treated quickly by removing as much of the stain as possible with a knife or vacuum cleaner. Wet a towel and gently dab the stain in the rug or cushion. Don’t rub! Older stains can be removed by covering them with ox gall soap. Let this steep for 15 minutes and then rinse. A product that we also recommend is James Stain Wonder.

Further tips
  • In case there is mud on your rug vacuum this off immediately before running it into the fiber
  • In case you are storing your rug, put this in the supplied cotton dust bag and add cedar wood to ensure that no moths get in
  • It is best not to place coloured rugs directly in the sun
  • Do not use room sprays over your rug or cushion, they are often sticky and attract dirt
