South of the High Atlas and North of the Sahara you’ll find the magical town Tinghir. Full of Kasbah’s and blooming gardens, Tinghir is a true pleasure for the eye and all your other senses. We recommend staying in one of the traditional Kasbahs just outside the city, overlooking the palm oasis. Which is perfect for a walk as well, especially right before sunset.
Tinghir is close to Morocco’s famous Todra Gorge and gives you access to a truly magnificent road to desert city Zagora.
Where to find
Tinghir is close to Kalaat M’Gouna (Rose Valley), Boumalne Dades and the Todra Gorge. It’s not most common to travel from Ouarzazate to Zagora by Tinghir. But, if you have time, very recommended. Tinghir itself is already worth a visit, but the road down South is simply overwhelming. You’ll pass green fields of palmtrees, a beautiful oasis in Tourza and moon-like landscapes. We arrived in Zagora during a small sand storm, true Sahara feelings! Highlight of the road? The herds of wild black camels!
Sleeping in Tinghir
We spent the night in Kasbah Omari. Simple, but with a magnificent view over the palm oasis. Looking for a more luxurious stay? Try eco-lodge Auberge Le Festival. Situated in the middle of the Todra Gorge, away from the crowds.
